Brazil announce football squad for Beijing Olympics

RIO DE JANERIO: Ronaldinho and Robinho will lead Brazil’’s assault on a first Olympic football gold in Beijing in August. Anderson is one of three Premier League players selected in the 18-man squad. The Brazilians won the silver medal twice, in 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul and they won the bronze in 1996 in Atlanta. Brazil are in Group C with Belgium, China and New Zealand and begin their campaign on 8 August against Belgium. The Olympics is the only significant title Brazil have never won.

Army wins Inter-departmental baseball title

LAHORE: Pakistan Army has won the seventh inter-departmental baseball championship title defeating police.In a match played at Iqbal Park Sports Complex here, Army beat Police by 9-4 score. India names squad for Sri Lanka test series

MUMBAI: Indian selectors named the 16-member squad on Tuesday for the three-test series in Sri Lanka starting on July 23. Mahendra Singh Dhoni took the rare step of pulling out of a Test tour because of fatigue on Tuesday, saying he wanted to miss the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The wicketkeeper-batsman told officials he was not available for the three Tests starting in Colombo on July 23, but would be open for selection for the subsequent five-match one-day series. Australia could take Champions Trophy decision in two weeks

BRISBANE: Australia could decide within a fortnight whether to pull out of September’’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan. According to a foreign news agency, Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) chief executive Paul Marsh said a decision will not be made before it get reports from its security experts and the Federation of International Cricket Associations. Cricket Australia is expected to take a decision within two weeks, according to their spokesman Peter Young.
